On July 3rd 2026, we welcomed Annabelle Netz and Managing Director Fritz Hörauf from KOWOTEST Gesellschaft für Prüfausrüstung mbH as guests to our Working Group Standards.
Mr Hörauf and Ms Netz presented the KOWOSCAN X50 film scanner, which meets the requirements of quality class DS as set out in DIN EN ISO 14096 and, thanks to its Ultra-HighRes 2D digital camera, delivers very fast results with high scan quality.
As part of a demonstration of the scanner, a number of radiographic images of castings produced by GfR in accordance with DIN EN 12681-1 were digitised. The participants then discussed potential applications in the field of casting inspection, as well as user-friendliness in series digitisation.
DIN EN 14096 permits the disposal of X-ray films, provided they have first been digitised in accordance with the standard, at quality class DS. The working group therefore focused in particular on aspects relating to the standard-compliant evaluation of digitised films that had previously been produced in accordance with various standards for the inspection of castings.
All participants agreed that the current standards do not yet provide clear rules on this matter at least in the field of castings and that further clarification is required.
